Jude Fritts demonstrates sharpening a gouge as she works on the pipe shade carvings for the pipe organ at St Philip Presbyterian Church in Houston. Visit www.judefritts.com. Carving tools must be sharpened frequently to maintain a razor sharp edge. I use Japanese water stones to sharpen my tools. After wetting the stone, I make a slurry on its surface by rubbing it with a softer stone (starting at minute 1:16 in the video). Water stones sharpen much smoother and faster than oil stones and are less messy. I show the motion of sharpening a gouge starting at about minute 1:40 in the video. Rock the chisel along its curved tip while moving it in an oval on the wet stone. Notice I keep my wrist at the same level so the tool is sharpened at a consistent angle. Once you get the motion down, it becomes a nice smooth rhythm that you don’t even have to think about. (1:40) Check the tip of the chisel periodically as you sharpen until you get a little bit of a burr on the front. Take that off with a slip stone and then move to the polishing stone. Be sure to rinse the chisel off before you move to the next stone so as to not mix coarsenesses. Also, rinse off the coarse stone before putting it back in the water (2:40). Two cotton buffing wheels are used to get the super sharp, mirror-like finish. (3:30) Buffing wheels are often used nowadays instead of the leather strops that were traditionally used. Put a little rubbing compound on the wheel. Hold the chisel on the buffing wheel

Question by Uncle Planet (No relation): Why are Humans so convinced that they are naturally omnivores instead of herbivores?
If Humans were really meant to be meat-eaters, then why don’t you ever see very young children trying to eat small animals out of instinct? Also, when was the last time you ever salivated to a nice, juicy animal carcass that has been waiting out there for a few days to be eaten by the Maggots and Vultures? No Human could even catch a fleeing pronghorn on foot.

Humans are just a bunch of African hooligans that can’t run or fight. They literally couldn’t even last two seconds in the jungle, so they go on to take that out on the rest of the world by leaving the jungle in the first place. True predators have quick and stealthy forms of locomotion, complimented with their strength to take down their prey, razor-sharp fangs & claws, and a beautifully blood-curdling roar to top it all off. They don’t have to play Cthulhu by creating an array of unnatural objects to assist them in the hunt, they only use the anatomical traits that the great Gaia gave them to survive.

Humans on the other hand only got their two lanky legs to even try to run after animals, and they lost two of the nucleotides that were essential for the development of jaw strength because they were so seduced by the Dark Side. So they have to rely on inventing all these unnatural objects that they call “tools” to catch animals, just to give their arteries the clogging that they so richly deserve.

Name just one real predator that has to rely on inventing tools rather than using its own strength to catch and eat meat. Name one, go ahead, try, name one. See there? You can’t do it. What, what what, what? Oh, oh, oh, oh you want to pull Sea Otters out of your ***? That what you’re thinking about? Sea Otters? Well even Sea Otters rely on their natural stealth and strength to find and operate the readily available and NATURAL rocks that are important for keeping their food supply under control.
…and Sea Otters couldn’t live without doing their important job.

People are convinced that we are omnivores because it’s what they want to believe. You can’t force someone to not eat meat when it’s readily available on our shelves and advertisers and even doctors are saying it’s right to eat it.
I really agree with you though and I wonder what all the meat eaters that frequent this section will say…
Good question :)
